NBA News

Hey Guys,

Cloe here. Long time no post, huh?

Anyways, today I’m going to give you updates on NBA.

Dwight Howard is going to be on the Houston Rockets? Well, he met with their team. Free agency opened at midnight EDT, contracts can’t be signed until July 10. Rockets fan get ready for Howard!

Detroit Pistons meets an Atlanta Hawk free agent, Josh Smith at the beginning of free agency. However, no offer was made. The Pistons are most likely won’t offer Smith the max.

The Denver Nuggets player, Andre Iguodala is going to meet with Pistons, New Orleans Pelicans, Sacramento Kings, Golden State Warriors. Denver Nuggets are willing to offer him a contract extension when they see him on Monday. Iguodala opted out of a $16 million contract for next season, but a hefty extension could certainly lure him back.

The New Orleans Pelicans are interested at Kings’ restricted free agent Tyreke Evans and Oklahoma City Thunders’ free agent Kevin Martin. The Pelicans met with Evans early Monday morning, and they were prepared to make a big offer. The team could potentially clear nearly $13 million in cap space to sign Evans to an offer sheet outright. If the Pelicans is unable to get Evans or Iguodala, they will push to Martin. The OKC Thunders are mostly won’t re-sign Martin because of the luxury tax consequences. Martin is also interested in the Pistons, Dallas Mavericks, Minnesota Timberwolves and Milwaukee Bucks.

The Orlando Magic player J.J. Redick and the Dallas Maverick player O.J. Mayo will probably switch teams. The Milwaukee Bucks and the Minnesota Timberwolves are interested in J.J. Redick. The Timberwolves said they would commit serious money to get Redick.  The Wolves are reportedly meeting Tuesday with J.J. Redick. For Mayo, he met with the Timberwolves at the beginning of free agency and has several more meetings scheduled for Monday. Mayo is also going to meet with the Pistons, Bucks, Los Angeles Clippers, and Utah Jazz.

Ben McLemore has had a hugely impressive redshirt freshman season at Kansas. McLemore has a True Shooting Percentage of .651 this season and a PER of 24.61.McLemore is gaining momentum as the potential No. 1 overall pick in the 2013 NBA Draft.”I spoke with five different GMs this week who told me they’d take him No. 1,” wrote Chad Ford. “McLemore has been the best college player I’ve watched this season. I love him. A great combination of athleticism, length, shooting ability, ball handling and defense. He has the chance to be a very special player at a position that’s been very weak over the last five years.”

Dwight Howard took accountability for his role in the  Los Angeles Lakers struggles on Wednesday.“I think this will be the start of a new season tonight,” said Howard. “Our effort and energy will be better. It starts with me.” The Lakers  play at the Memphis Grizzlies  and have lost three straight. Howard also apologized for his comments about his lack of shot attempts. Howard said he needs to be “more of a player out there on the court and not worry about anything, not complain.” Howard declined to talk about his future with the franchise. “We’re not discussing that. Right now, our goal is to win. All I want to do is win.” Says Dwight Howerd

NBA Update: Rockets

Hey Sports Fans, Cloe here with NBA Update.

Ok, let’s go to the business.

The Houston Rockets have reconstructed their trade proposal to the Orlando Magic for superstar center Dwight Howard, vowing to take back even more long-term salary from the Magic than before in hopes of convincing Orlando to consent to trade Howard directly to Houston, according to sources briefed on the trade talks.

Rockets general manager Daryl Morey is feverishly trying to construct a trade that will allow the Rockets to take back, in addition to Howard, some combination of Richardson, Davis, Duhon and Hedo Turkoglu. With Scola’s three remaining seasons valued at roughly $21 million off the books, the Rockets believe they can create the requisite cap space to do so.

Friday thus looms as a pivotal day in the Rockets’ all-out quest to trade for Howard. Not only is Houston expected to formally waive Scola on Friday, but sources say the Rockets will also finalize their long-awaited offer sheet to New York Knicks restricted free agent Jeremy Lin. The Knicks have been adamant that they will match Houston’s four-year offer to Lin valued at just under $29 million, but they can take three days to do so once Lin signs.

The Rockets have also committed a three-year offer sheet worth just over $25 million to Chicago Bulls restricted free agent Omer Asik. It’s believed that the Rockets will make Asik’s offer sheet official after the Knicks match on Lin, but Asik’s fate is less certain, with the Bulls said to be wavering on whether to bring the bruising big man back. The Rockets promised offer sheets to Asik and Lin early in free agency — and are thus honor-bound to go through with them to ensure that they’ll suffer no future repercussions from agents or players in free agency — but it’s possible that Houston is secretly rooting for both offer sheets to be matched. In that scenario, the Rockets would have more cap space to try to get the Orlando trade done, which is clearly their No. 1 priority.

Houston officials, though, remain steadfast in their belief that, even if the Bulls decline to match on Asik, they’ll be able to absorb at least three of the four aforementioned Magic role players: Richardson, Davis, Duhon and Turkoglu. Sources say the Rockets would have to send Kevin Martin, Patrick Patterson, Marcus Morris and Chandler Parsons to the Magic from their current roster to make the salary-cap math work, as well the draft rights to Jeremy Lamb, Royce White and Terrence Jones, all selected in last month’s first round.

The Rockets, in addition, would have to waive a handful of players with nonguaranteed contracts (Shaun Livingston, Courtney Fortson, Josh Harrellson, Jerome Jordan, Jon Leuer, Diamon Simpson and Greg Smith) to clear sufficient cap space. But Houston, sources say, is also offering multiple first-round picks to the Magic, including a potential lottery pick acquired this week from Toronto in the Kyle Lowry deal. Future picks are known to hold great appeal to new Magic general manager Rob Hennigan, and no team in the recent running for Howard — Brooklyn and the Los Angeles Lakers are the other two top suitors — has a first-rounder of that caliber to send to Orlando.
